If Good Friday means anything to Christians, it means that One who came to love, heal, and redeem the world did so because the people in that world needed love, healing, and redemption. This One was killed for it. But before he is killed, Jesus tells us that anyone who feeds the hungry, clothes the naked, welcomes the stranger, visits the sick or those in prison--in short, who works in love for those who don't belong among the prosperous or powerful--is actually feeding, clothing, welcoming, and visiting Jesus himself, and they shall receive their just reward. Conversely, those who ignore or contribute to the harm of those who don't belong among the prosperous or powerful, are cursed forever. I live and prosper in a society that allows and encourages police, on behalf of the prosperous and powerful, to kill people like Stephon Clark. Lord have mercy.
